Cake decoration is described as a 'sugar art' that utilizes techniques like icing and frosting to give aesthetic flavour to the galette. Let's take a brief look at the types of decorative ways the outlook of cakes can be made to appeal to your guest on a special day:

  • Sugar paste: This is the most popular form of cake decoration. It is commonly known as Fondant. The ingredients used include gelatine, castor sugar, water, shortening and glycerine.
  • Butter cream: This method uses milk, sifted powdered sugar and butter to make icing which is thereafter, used in decorating the cake. As a matter of emphasis, the butter is the most predominant ingredient utilized in this type of decoration.
  • Royal icing: The frosting in this method is done using egg whites and powdered sugar. The icing is then used to flood the cake using more water. Thereafter, the decorator can add more artistic thrill to the cake.

Other types of cake decoration are Marzipan, cream cheese frosting, chocolate ganache and meringue.
